Commonly known as Siberian Statice, as it’s name hints towards, this is ultra-hardy – the worlds first of the kind when it comes to Limonium Gmelinii. Despite being extremely tough and resilient, it is a stunning looking annual that’s lavender-purple clusters of dainty upward facing blooms will attract bees and pollinators searching for nectar. Bred by Peter Van Stejn, bringing vibrant flower displays from June to September in borders, beds and containers typically, but also would work well in rockeries and landscaping spaces. Thrives in full sun and well drained sandy soil, where it’s drought tolerance and low maintenance will really shine through. Height 50cm (20”) and spread 40cm (16”).
Growing Information
Pot up Statice plants using free-draining compost, and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside. Once they are well grown, acclimatise Limonium plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting outdoors on light, sandy, well drained soil in full sun. Improve heavy soil conditions by adding coarse grit or sharp sand prior to planting.
