Courgette Seeds – F1 Defender

An RHS Award of Garden Merit Winner

The Courgette F1 Defender is a British bred courgette that is resistant to cucumber mosaic virus which often decimates marrow plants in our gardens. The Courgette F1 Defender produces very heavy crops of mid-green, slightly speckled courgettes. The Courgette F1 Defender is an ideal variety for people just starting to grow their own vegetables. Being perfect to grow in small spaces too these courgettes will be great in any garden space. Being a tasty variety of courgette that is easy to grow, the F1 defender variety is an admired winner of the RHS Award for Garden Merit.

Growing Information

Sowings may be made between February and May where sufficient heat is available. Courgette seed should be sown singly either in 7.5cm (3in) pots or spaced 2.5cm (1in) apart in boxes or pans. A temperature of 15°C (60°F) is necessary for the ordinary varieties and 21°C (70°F) for the “All Female” types. When sowing in 7.5cm pots, some people prefer to no more than half fill the pot at sowing time, subsequently adding more compost at a later stage and avoiding the disturbance of re-potting and yet encouraging necessary vegetative growth.
