Tell Me More…
Actaea matsumurae ‘White Pearl’ is a striking, award-winning perennial known for its elegant, bottlebrush-like spikes of lightly fragrant white flowers that bloom in late summer to early autumn. These tall flower spikes, reaching up to 1.2m, rise gracefully above the lush, fern-like foliage, creating a stunning vertical accent in the garden while attracting bees and other pollinators. The finely divided, deep green leaves form a dense, attractive mound to around 60cm wide, providing a beautiful contrast to the bright white blooms. ‘White Pearl’ thrives in partially shaded to fully shaded locations, making it an excellent choice for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and alongside streams or ponds. It prefers moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. This low-maintenance, fully hardy herbaceous perennial is relatively pest and disease-resistant. It benefits from regular watering to keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells. Minimal pruning is required, but removing spent flower spikes can help maintain its neat appearance.
