Tell Me More…
A variegated form of a popular evergreen shrub, also known as the Castor Oil Plant. Fatsia japonica ‘Spider’s Web’ is perfect for adding brightness and detail to a shaded corner, shrub border, courtyard, or large container display. The huge, palmate, architectural leaves for which fatsia is so valued are, in this case, speckled heavily with white. These markings occur around the edges and spread inwards to varying degrees, with some leaves being almost completely white – an unusual spectacle which is sure to get noticed. In autumn, small, creamy flowers are borne in compact globes, followed, in winter, by clusters of black, spherical ornamental fruits. Fatsia japonica ‘Spiders Web’ is a tough and resilient shrub, despite its tropical looks, and will tolerate both coastal exposure and urban pollution. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil of any type and position in sun or shade. Plants mature to a height and spread of 2.5m and this evergreen, hardy (H4) shrub can withstand colder temperatures throughout most of the UK, particularly when sheltered from cold, drying winds.
