Tell Me More…
Perfect for a dry garden – our hardy and drought-tolerant Prairie Grass Collection (Stipa Ponytails, Miscanthus kleine Fontaine, Pennisetum alopecuriudes Hameln) combines 3 of the best Ornamental Grasses for texture and movement. Stipa Ponytails produces wispy tufts of feathery grass up to 60cm tall. New growth emerges green and fades to sun-bleached blonde in summer.Miscanthus kleine Fontaine grows taller, up to 1.5m. Arched stems with fountains of crimped pinkish purple flowerheads emerge in summer, lightening in colour and texture as the autumn months arrive.Pennisetum alopecuriudes Hameln produces soft pink flowerheads resembling squirrel tails from tufts of upright grassy foliage from July to September. Reaching up to 1.2m tall with a spread of 1m, this grass is best placed in the centre of the border or large container. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Perfect for a gravel garden or prairie planting scheme where these grasses can mingle together in the sunshine with other heat-lovers such as Achillea, Echinacea, Sedums, or Verbena bonariensis.
