Tell Me More…
Begonia x tuber hybrida ‘Illumination Scarlet’ will bring a bit of summer heat to your seasonal planting schemes. A wonderful waterfall of opulent and generous blooms will cascade from hanging baskets and pots from June to the first frosts, radiating warmth by your front door or on your patio. Favoured for their ruffled blousy blooms which can reach up to 10cm across, these gardeners’ favourite are tolerant of both the summer heat and wet. Begonia x tuber hybrida ‘Illumination Scarlet’ has a splendid, trailing habit of 40 to 60cm – allowing this beauty to tumble over the sides of your baskets or containers to create an almost spherical display of flowers which almost cover the bushy, green foliage. As a half-hardy, tuberous perennial these plants can be lifted, kept dry and protected over winter then re-planted the following season. Plants prefer moist, well-drained soil which is either loam or sand based. Site in full sun or partial shade and they will grow to a height and spread of 30cm.
