Tell Me More…
Sure to add sparkle, Epimedium ‘Purple Pixie’ produces purple-bronze foliage which emerges each February and matures to bright green, forming attractive mounds. The perfect backdrop for the wiry, branching, red-purple stems held from April to July, bearing open racemes of large vivid, pink-purple sepals and bright white spurs. Epimedium are also known by the common name Bishop’s Hat as the flowers closely resemble a bishop’s mitre. Plants spread by rhizomes and make wonderful carpets of weed-suppressing groundcover. Perfect for planting into borders and containers or nestling under shrubs and trees. Plants also love a woodland setting. Epimedium ‘Purple Pixie’ prefers to be grown in moist, well-drained soil with partial shade, reaching a height of 30cm, with a spread of 45cm. Suitable for all soil types, this is a long-lived, hardy perennial which may retain its foliage all year in milder parts of the UK.
