Description
- With its dark burgundy flower buds, and deep pink, goblet-shaped blooms in the springtime, ‘Susan’ is a magnolia that everyone should know about.
- The glorious flowers (which also radiate a lovely scent) precede the appearance of rich green foliage which helps ensure visual interest right until the end of autumn.
- A compact, shrubby tree, typically growing to just three metres tall and wide, this magnolia is perfect as a feature tree for both front and back lawns.
- Initially grown in the 1950s by William F. Kosar and Dr. Francis de Vos at the US National Arboretum, in Washington, D.C, ‘Susan’ has long been a highly-regarded magnolia variety.
- To top it all off, it’s also an RHS Award of Garden Merit winner – an award conferred upon those plants that have shown to perform particularly well in British gardens.
