Tell Me More…
A lesser-known species of a much-loved garden plant, Eryngium yuccifolium ‘Magical Green Globe’ forms rosettes of long, narrow, spiny grey-green leaves, from which emerge tall, strong stems bearing many whitish green, globe-like flowers. The characteristic bract ‘ruffs’ of eryngium, while present, are so small as to be hardly visible, resulting in a stripped back, simple silhouette. Perfect for the middle to back of a border, the clusters of neat, cylindrical, creamy flowers found on ‘Magical Green Globe’ contrast happily with other plants such as grasses, umbels, and daisy-like blooms. E. yuccifolium is prized by florists; its long, straight, sturdy stems particularly well-suited to arrangements. Prefers dry, well-drained, poor to moderately fertile soil in full sun. Requires protection from winter wet to fully thrive, perhaps by planting in the rain shadow of a wall, tree, or shrub. H&S: 90cm x 40cm. Hardy perennial.
