Saturated sumptuous purple blooms bring a riot of colour in autumn. For a generous late season burst of rich, striking colour, Symphyotrichum novi-belgii ‘Purple Dome’ is hard to beat. Producing masses of semi-double, violet-purple blooms with sunny yellow centres, this compact perennial matures to form a neat, tight dome of blooms. A perfect sculptural form to contrast with loose ornamental grasses and swaying late-flowerers such as rudbeckia and crocosmia. Flowers of Symphyotrichum novi-belgii ‘Purple Dome’ are produced over an impressively long period (from September to November) and are an invaluable source nectar for pollinators at an otherwise dwindling time. So much so, they can often be seen teeming with butterflies. Symphyotrichum novi-belgii ‘Purple Dome’ is one of our favourite ways to inject life into the fading, autumnal garden. Plants are happy in almost any soil or situation, though they grow best in fertile, moist soil in sun or partial shade. Hardy, deciduous perennials which reach a height and spread of 60cm.
