Description
James Grieve is a justifiably popular dual-purpose apple variety, raised in Scotland, which is highly valued for its cooking and eating qualities. James Grieve is a mid-season variety that is picked in early-mid September. After a few weeks the flavour sweetens and becomes quite mild, and it is then an excellent apple to eat in slices along with a cheese course. The apples also hold their shape well when cooked and have a light and juicy flavour. The flesh is soft and similar to a firm pear in texture.
To guarantee cross pollination plant in a sunny, open site with another tree from the same flowering group (e.g. ‘Jonagold’).
