The fresh leaves of Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Little Devil’ emerge brilliant red and mature to a dark burgundy by summer. From June to August, the deep foliage contrasts magnificently with groups of pink flowers that decorate the branch tips. By late summer, the flowers have given way to appealing fruits. This sleek variety, which is low-maintenance and simple to grow, is an excellent choice for beginning gardeners, providing a long season of importance for little commitment. With this superb dwarf Ninebark, you can add colour to even the smallest garden borders. Height and spread: 1.2m (4′).

Growing Information

Plant Physocarpus in a fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun or semi-shade. Physocarpus plants prefer an acid to neutral soil, but will tolerate more alkaline soils, although may they may become chlorotic in very chalky areas. Incorporate organic matter such as well-rotted manure or compost into the soil prior to planting.
