Acer palmatum is one of the most popular of the Japanese Maples due all over the country, due to its slow growing habit that makes it perfect for container and patio pot growing. A genuinely striking small tree that likes a dappled shade corner with plenty of shelter or protection from the elements, it is elegant and vibrant. Foliage turns from mid-green in summer to warm orange, yellow and red in autumn. Height and spread: Up to 8m (26′).
Growing Information
Grow Acer palmatum trees in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in sun or dappled shade. It is quite important to give plants shelter from strong winds which can scorch the leaves. Alternatively grow the Japanese Maple in large containers, using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
