Sowing Time
February – May for summer flowering
May – August for winter/spring flowering
Sowing Indoors
Almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost. Sow seeds thinly over the surface and lightly cover them with a little more compost. Place in the warmth 10-15 degree Celsius (50-60 Fahrenheit), and keep moist. Higher temperatures may inhibit germination.
Growing On
Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm (2in) apart into trays of potting compost.
Hardening Off/Planting Out
Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting out. Allow 15cm (6in) between plants.
Flowering Time
January – September, depending on when sown. Although hardy, these pansies are best grown as biennials, which flower the year after sowings made May – August. Pansies can also be treated as half hardy annuals to flower the same year from sowings made February – May.
