- Apricot trees are a glorious addition to any sunny garden – even small gardens! That’s right, with a cordon-trained apricot tree you get delicious, juicy fruits from a narrow columnar tree that doesn’t take up much room. The dream.
- ‘Flavourcot’ is an impressive self-fertile variety that yields wonderfully sweet, succulent apricots that are perfect for both eating fresh and using in desserts

- Our expert growers have carefully established the proper cordon shape for your apricot tree, meaning all that’s left for you to do is to give your lovely tree a yearly prune. The bulk of the pruning is carried out in summer, with occasional winter pruning also being helpful as the tree matures. Our top pruning tips are as follows:
- Towards the end of summer, in August, cut back shoots that are over 20cm long, reducing them down to a single leaf beyond the cluster of leaves at the base of the current year’s growth (this grouping of leaves is called the basal cluster)
- If you find that your apricot cordon’s spurs are becoming overly crowded or busy, which happens sometimes with more mature trees – then thin out a few of the less productive, older spurs in winter
