Tell Me More…
Polystichum munitum, arching, impressive and architectural slender fronds curve from the centre creating a dramatic elegant rosette. The lush verdant evergreen leaves bring life and colour to the shady parts of your garden, even during winter. A magnificent fern which is hardy and easy to grow, thriving in moist, dappled shade. Fantastic for adding presence to forgotten parts of the garden. Polystichum was first discovered in the Victorian era. Polystichum means ‘many in a row’ – referring to the fascinating leaf segments, which look almost feathered when mature. Polystichum has been give the RHS Award of Garden Merit for outstanding performance in the garden, preferring to be grown in a shady area, as too much sun will cause the fronds to yellow. Polystichum likes moist, well-drained soil and is a fully hardy perennial, reaching 60-90cm in height and spread, once established.
