Tell Me More…
Exciting newcomer for 2024 – an eye-catching Colocasia with a flashy centre. Fabulous for adding foliage colour and a generous dash of quirkiness to your garden. Colocasia esculenta ‘Madeira Star’ is well-suited to the edge of a pond or damp container as it likes moist, not waterlogged, conditions at all times. Colocasia esculenta ‘Madeira Star’ offers verdant, heart-shaped foliage which is deeply ribbed for sculptural impact. Leaves are further accented by an intense, raspberry red central star which is edged by purple as leaves mature. Maturing to a height of up to 1.5m, with a spread of 1m, this astounding tropical beauty will have a statuesque impact on your planting. Prefers moist soil with an acidic or neutral in pH. Soil can be of any kind except chalk based and position in full sun or partial shade. A sub-tropical, herbaceous perennial which can be grown as a houseplant or, if located outdoors, will need indoor, heated protection once temperatures consistently drop below 10°C.
