Tell Me More…
A colourful, semi-evergreen sub-shrub with flowers akin to miniature hibiscus. Anisodontea capensis El Rayo flowers prolifically from June to October, and sometimes beyond, each year. An easy-going, yet exotic looking plant which is native to South Africa and offers successional pink blooms, each with a darker eye and prominent stigma. The key to prolonging the life of theses tender, semi-evergreen shrubs is to ensure that they have sufficient shelter and exceptionally good drainage in the milder parts of the UK. In the colder regions we recommend planting in a container that can be overwintered away from the cold in a conservatory or greenhouse (where plants are likely to continue flowering). Nectar-rich flowers are loved by pollinators and stems make a wonderfully exotic inclusion in a vase or floral display. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its outstanding performance. Anisodontea capensis El Rayo prefers well-drained soil and spot which benefits from full sun in either a southerly or westerly aspect. A tender, semi-evergreen sub-shrub which should not be exposed to frost and reaches a height and spread of up to 1m.
