Lizzano, as confirmed by Bangor University, is the most blight tolerant variety we have seen. It is a semi-determinate type producing abundant yields of tasty, high quality, bright red, baby cherry sized fruits. It is a vigorous variety with a compact, uniform trailing habit. Height and spread approximately 50cm (20″). Patio type.
(Bush variety – very easy to grow as trusses do not require support and fruits without side shoots being removed.)
Growing Information
For greenhouse crops, sow February/April under glass 18-21°C (65-70°F). Grow in well prepared borders, large pots or growing bags, removing laterals as they appear. For outdoor crops, sow April under glass 18-21°C (65-70°F). Grow in warm, sunny positions in well prepared, moisture retentive soil allowing 45-60cm (1½-2′) between plants, and water regularly in dry periods. (16-18 weeks maturity.)
Sowing Information
Sow in a propagator on a windowsill or in a greenhouse at approx. 18°C (65°F) using a good quality, finely sieved, moist compost. Cover the seeds with 6mm (1?4″) sieved compost. Germination 8-12 days. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle singly into 7.5cm (3″) pots and grow on. Finally, transplant into 50cm (20″) pots to grow on to fruiting, allowing up to 41-46cm (16-18″) between plants. Stand pots outdoors when frost risk has passed.
Sowing ➞ Cropping – 16-20 weeks.
