Description
- Get the best of both worlds with our growers’ new hedging collection! Fast growing privet for screening combined with our growers’ selection of deciduous plants specially chosen for their performance, colour, form and benefits to wildlife
- Planting an evergreen hedge paired with deciduous plants is the best method of reliably establishing an evergreen screen with diversity for wildlife. It also improves soil stability and air quality, being pollution tolerant. Bees and other pollinating insects are attracted by the flowers in spring and many bird species will feed on the fruits as well as nesting in the branches. Your hedge will also provide shelter and food for small mammals such as hedgehogs
- Each pack will contain enough hedging for 5 plants per square metre, enough to plant a staggered double row, working out at 80% Privet with the remaining plants deciduous, which will be chosen by our growers from a selection of their best performing varieties and may include Purple Beech, Corkscrew or Golden Willow, Rowan, Silver Birch, Hornbeam, Hawthorn, Poplar, Sweet Cherry and more. All plants are supplied as bare root
- Privet is a highly versatile evergreen hedge as it can be maintained at a range of heights and is fast growing
- As the deciduous trees arrive at a larger height, they have a headstart on the fast growing Privet. Prune the central leader of your deciduous trees at the desired height and it will branch out, preventing the tree from getting too large. Alternatively, leave them to grow for a more natural, informal look
- Hardy, easy care perennials providing interest throughout the year – Plant in sun or partial shade in any well-drained soil and water well when newly planted. We recommend spreading the deciduous plants 1m apart with the Privet planted around them in a double row. Your hedge will establish quickly and become drought tolerant
