In March Aquilegia vulgaris var. stellata ‘White Barlow’ brings attractive mounds of rounded, grey-green foliage to the garden, lasting through to November. From these mounds tall stems rise, each holding a cluster of white buds which open to reveal, fully double, spur less, white blooms from May to July. Flowers are almost spherical and resemble pom-poms, they are excellent cut for floral arrangements, adding a bit of fun and lasting well in a vase.Also known commonly as ‘Granny’s Bonnet’, Aquilegia bridge the gap which often occurs in the garden when the spring bulbs are finishing, and the summer perennials are just getting going. Guaranteed to add cheer with their bright and easy-going blooms. Unfussy on soil conditions and happy in sun or partial shade, Aquilegia vulgaris var. stellata ‘White Barlow’ will reach a mature height of 90cm and spread 45cm. An RHS H7, fully hardy, herbaceous perennial.
