Prunus Kanzan
AKA Japanese Cherry Tree
Japanese Cherry Tree, or Prunus Kanzan, is a signatory pink flowering cherry producing profuse displays of deep pink flowers in spring. The flowers are produced above coppery-red foliage with serrated margins which takes on fabulous hues of brilliant orange and coppery reds in autumn. Trees are columnar when younger, becoming more rounded in shape as they mature, which is reflected in a tree of 25-30cm girth. Japanese cherry is a vigorous grower, succeeding in a range of soil types providing they are well drained. Works well as an avenue planting variety. Eventual height is 7 to 12 metres.
