Bean (French Dwarf) Plants – Safari
Popular ‘Filet’ or ‘Fine’ beans as seen in supermarkets!
The French dwarf bean ‘Safari’ is a late maturing bean plant with a strong vigorous habit. This straight, very slender french bean variety produces very fine stringless pods around 11-12cm (4½-5″) in length. The Safari is sometimes recognised as the Kenyan Bean with a high level of resistance.
These French bean plants are the perfect addition to any home grown vegetable garden or on the allotment.
Growing Information
Pot up plug plants and grow them on in warm, bright conditions until all risk of frost has passed. Gradually acclimatise dwarf French beans to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days prior to planting outdoors.
Grow dwarf bean plants in rich fertile, well drained soil in full sun or semi shade. Prepare the soil in early spring by adding plenty of well rotted garden compost to the soil to improve its structure and fertility. Avoid using products that are high in nitrogen such as farmyard manure, as this may promote lush foliage instead of beans. Plant French beans at a distance of 22cm (9”) apart in staggered rows for the highest yields. Water the plants in well after planting.
