Geranium phaeum var. phaeum ‘Samabor’ is a delightful and versatile woodland geranium, perfect for adding texture and colour to shady borders or dry, difficult spots. This variety thrives in areas with little sunlight, making it an ideal choice for dry shade, such as beneath trees or along north-facing walls. It forms dense, low-maintenance mounds of finely divided, deep green foliage, each leaf adorned with striking maroon spots. In late spring to early summer, the foliage is complemented by an abundance of velvety maroon flowers that nod gracefully on tall, slender stems. These blooms stand out beautifully above the foliage, their rich purple tones providing a stunning contrast to bright, yellow-leaved plants such as Heuchera or Carex. A wonderful ground cover, ‘Samabor’ is excellent at suppressing weeds and offers year-round interest. Its flowers are also a valuable early food source for pollinators, making it a great addition to a wildlife-friendly garden. Low-maintenance and adaptable, this charming Geranium is perfect for creating a calming woodland vibe in your garden. Height: 80cm (31in) Spread: 50cm (20in)

Growing Information

Plant geranium bareroots at the earliest opportunity following delivery. Should soil conditions prevent planting directly into borders (if soil is frozen or waterlogged), perennial geraniums should be potted up, watered sparingly and grown on in a cool position. Choose a sunny or semi shaded position on moist, well drained soil. Work some compost or general fertiliser into the top 20cm of the soil. Dig a hole wide enough to accommodate the bareroot with its roots spread out and deep enough that the crown of the plant is just a few cm below soil level. Backfill the hole with soil and firm the plant in gently. Water well to settle the soil.
