Tell Me More…
In Greek, the word Dodeca means twelve and Theos means God. It is said that this flower was named in ancient Rome by Pliny as he believed it to be under the care of the ‘twelve superior gods’. Easier to understand, just by looking is probably the common name Shooting Star, as each individual flower has a perfect point and reflexed petals. The flowers appear from April to June, are great for cutting and are followed by narrow oval fruit. Prefers moist soil in full or part shade. Height 30-40cm (12-16″). Spread 25cm (10″). Hardy perennial.
