Tell Me More…
An unusual, exciting wildflower which, as the name suggests, hails from hotter and drier regions of Southeast Europe. Knautia macedonica is a naturalising, pollinator-enticing bloom which will produce oodles of blooms commencing in June and continuing through to September time – coordinating wonderfully with both the hot colours of summer and the bronze, yellow and orange shades of early autumn. Flowers are held on tall, slender stems for an airy and colourful impact in pots, rockeries and borders. Also, the perfect accompaniment to meadow planting. Tall stems reach as high as 80cm so will benefit from a degree of support as they mature to ensure they remain upright in more exposed sites. Twiggy pea sticks are ideal and will not be noticeable once the plants mature. Knautia macedonica prefers a spot in well-drained soil of any kind except clay. Ensure soil has a neutral or alkaline pH and plant in full sun. A fully hardy, herbaceous perennial which spreads to 45cm.
